Releasing his 13th solo CD, Jim Malcolm is among Scotland’s most prolific singer-songwriters, and this outstanding collection of 14 songs, performed live last autumn, shows why.
The guitar playing is superb, his harmonica brings unexpected nuance, and Jim’s voice, always warm and attractive, sounds mellow and exceptionally tuneful; deserving the audience’s enthusiasm. The CD includes six Malcolm originals, alongside masterful renditions of Brian McNeill’s Lads O The Fair, Andy M Stewart’s Valley Of Strathmore and Jim Reid’s Vinney Den.
Over 30 years, including eight with Old Blind Dogs, Jim has performed the traditional songs of Scotland across Europe and the USA. This collection includes the Jolly Beggar and Billy Taylor and, perhaps best of all, Lochaber No More. The influence of Scotland’s cultural landscape is much in evidence, but the performances are vintage Jim Malcolm.
