Spalding Folk Club celebrates 40 years

In May 2019, Spalding Folk Club will be celebrating its 40th anniversary, and is planning two special events to mark this milestone. The club has been running continuously since 1979 and meets twice a month in two different formats – once with a booked guest, and once for a singaround. With some other ‘fringe’ events, there is always plenty going on, and it is good to hear that the club is thriving with levels of attendance being consistently high.

The club will celebrate its anniversary with two consecutive nights of folk at the South Holland Centre. On Wednesday 1st May the guest will be an old friend of the club, Jez Lowe, and on this occasion it is hoped that as many former organisers and committee members as possible will be assembled, and a celebratory cake will be eaten! Then, on 2nd May, Kathryn Roberts and Sean Lakeman will continue the celebrations.

In a year for club anniversaries, secretary, organiser and all-round main woman for the club, Liz Padgett, celebrated 20 years at the helm in March, and was presented with a beautiful commemorative plate by club members. She and her partner Martin Browne are part of the dedicated team who run the club. Martin says: “Needless to say, we are very proud of our club - not only for the tireless and dedicated work of the committee "team" but also the wonderful support and interaction we get from our audience members and the musicians and performers who regularly go out to promote the club in the area as part of our outreach programme.”
