EFDSS at English Folk Expo 2019

The English Folk Dance and Song Society are presenting three artists at English Folk Expo in Manchester this October, all of whom will perform 20-minute sets at The Comedy Store on Whitworth Street West on the morning of the 18th.

Damien & The Omen is a new project from Damien Barber, with Ben Griffith, Matt Aplin and Hugh MacDermott. It’s a return to the more stripped-back, intimate performances inspired by traditional singers such as Peter Bellamy and Walter Pardon. Nicola Beazley is a traditional fiddle player from the North of England, who has recently released a solo EP, Echoes and who was a recipient of the Creative Seed Bursary in 2018. Thom Ashworth, another Creative Seed Bursary beneficiary, is a folk singer and bassist who also released an album this year, and who is turning heads with his interpretations of traditional songs and original material.

Katy Spicer, EFDSS Chief Executive and Artistic Director said: “As a founding and current partner of EFEx, EFDSS has the privilege of being able to provide additional performance platforms alongside the main EFEx and Manchester Folk Festival performances. We focus on new and emerging artists, and established artists who are developing a new band or forging a solo career, all working with the English folk idiom. English Folk Expo is a strand of EFDSS’ Artists’ Development Programme, and it is wonderful be able to give these three talented artists the opportunity to showcase at this significant event.”
