CHARLIE GREY & JOSEPH PEACH - Air Iomall

CHARLIE GREY & JOSEPH PEACH - Air Iomall
Braw Sailin Records CD007BSR

A second album from this pair, a little longer than their half hour debut (38 minutes), and the music is just gorgeous. Grey's fiddle leads, while Peach adds all the right touches on keyboards, and occasionally duets on the melody. Air Iomall really builds on the duo's previous contemporary Scottish sound - all new, all instrumental, and all distinctly born of Scotland's musical heritage. Charlie and Joseph have created a small but significant body of sublime music here, with a little assistance from Cameron Grant on guitar.

From the delicate reel The Big Islands to the pumping jig The Wylde Swan, this recording chronicles a voyage to five abandoned outposts of the Hebrides: the Flannan Isles, the Shiant Isles, North Rona, Sula Sgeir and St Kilda, all places which found themselves on the edge - or Air Iomall in Gaelic. The final track takes all these pieces and puts them together as a live performance recorded on St Kilda, a reprise of the entire album. There is an accompanying film which shows the journey of the sailing ship Wylde Swan as well as the music of Grey and Peach: check their website for the trailer.
