GORDON GUNN BAND "Shoreside" Greentrax CDTRAX204

The Gordon Gunn Band are Gordon Gunn - fiddle and mandolin, Phil Anderson - guitar, bass, percussion and keyboards, Billy Peace - keyboards, accordion and percussion. On Shoreside they are joined by guest musicians Ian MacKay on double bass and Andy Thorburn on piano. Their repertoire is a fine mixture of traditional and modern traditional style material, reels, marches, waltzes, slow airs etc. from many sources.

My favourite at the moment is track four "Two French Canadian tunes with some interesting tempo quirks followed by Billy's arrangement of the popular Reel Beatrice". This is a bit of a tour - de - force showing simultaneously their individual skills and their ability to keep it tight as a unit, These boys can really play.

Shoreside is a CD of high quality. Fine musicianship, good material and excellent programming insure that interest is maintained throughout. My own enjoyment of this CD is all the greater because The Gordon Gunn Band is new to me. I wonder how much good music is missed because the name of the performer is unfamiliar. Still that's where a review can help bring just such music to the attention of those interested.

Treat yourself, you won't be disappointed. Recommended.
