JOE AITKEN - Festival Favourites

JOE AITKEN - Festival Favourites
Private Label JACD001

Joe is a favourite guest singer at festivals in Scotland, Ireland and England, hence the title of this CD.  Hailing from Kirriemuir, he is a fine singer of traditional songs which he delivers in his own inimitable fashion.  He’s also a great exponent of the North East bothy style of singing.  He has won the coveted Champion of Champions bothy ballad competition at Elgin, and featured on the BBC Scotland documentary Beyond The Bothy in 2010.  He has a variety of material from the traditional Berryfields of Blair, The Pair Tree, Barnyards O’ Delgaty and Auld Meal Mill to songwriters’ material like Eric Bogle’s Wee China Pig, Ian Middleton’s Festival Of Keith, Aul’ Davy’s Dra’ers and The Lispin’ Leghorn and Matt Armour’s Generation Of Change.

Particularly lovely songs are The Wild Geese – Jim Reid, Yellow On The Broom – Adam MacNaughtan and Annie McKelvie – Iain Ingram.  And we love the title The Porcelain Waltz – Donald McGeoch.

Joe is what singers enjoy – stand and sing the song and let it speak for itself.  A very welcome guest at any festival.
