RÉALTA - Open The Door For Three

RÉALTA - Open The Door For Three
Private Label ADC001

Based in Belfast, Réalta are Conor Lamb, Aaron O’Hagan and Deirdre Galway and feature the lads on whistles and uilleann pipes with strong, sympathetic accompaniment from Deirdre. Interspersed between the tune sets are three songs featuring the haunting voice of Deirdre who brings a real freshness to them.

Open The Door For Three really comes to life when the two pipes get going together and this feature sets it apart from other traditional Irish works. Obviously comparisons are made and Réalta have the potential to be likened favourably to the great bands such as Planxty and The Bothy Band. They are not quite there yet - this is, of course, only their first CD, and they are young. But, and here is an important difference to a lot of the young emerging bands, Aaron and Conor have both learned their trade by touring extensively as part of the Belfast based band, Craobh Rua, and it shows.

Mention must be made about the quality of the product itself. Considering the band have just about done everything themselves, from playing to the packaging, recording in Aaron’s studio, marketing, even Aaron making his own pipes, this is a top quality product.

Well done to all three of them. I am sure the door will be opened as a result of this CD.
