SEAN TYRRELL, KEVIN GLACKIN, RONAN BROWNE - And So The Story Goes...
Clo Iar-Chonnacht  CICD185

At the risk of stirring up the debate on the use of superlatives, I have only one thing to say about this long over-due CD by three masters of Irish music. To put it simply everything about this product, from the feel and look of the packaging, to the photography, to the additional booklet of notes and sources, to the sound quality, recording and production, and finally to the playing, musicianship and choice of material is absolutely brilliant.  Fifteen tracks of the best in Irish music.

Sean, Kevin and Ronan have been playing together since the 1980’s and have finally succumbed to the cries from the audience for something to take home with them. Thank you audiences!

Sean is one of the best interpreters of song there is - his offerings on here show that. If you haven’t got his Cry Of A Dreamer in your collection then you don’t know what you are missing. Kevin Glackin has been playing fiddle since he was six, and his collaboration with Davy Spillane, Forgotten Days, was an award winner. Ronan Browne is an extraordinary piper, being the original piper in the Afro-Celts, but is probably best known for his work in Cran. Mention must also be made of the delicate and sympathetic accompaniment of Fergus Feely, Jimmy Fitzgerald and Paul O’Driscoll.

I am not going to do the “my favourite track” thing as there isn’t a bad one here. It should be essential listening to anyone with an interest in Irish music, or even those without! If this isn’t an award winner then there is no justice. Please, please, please don’t let it be another 30 years before another one and how about a tour outside of Ireland? As I said a brilliant CD.
