FRIGG - Frost On Fiddles

FRIGG - Frost On Fiddles
Private Label FRIGG00011

Two Norwegian and two Finnish fiddle and hardanger fiddle players backed up by (mostly) cittern, guitar and bass. And what a sound they make! Although their entire repertoire is composed, it's firmly based on the Scandinavian fiddle traditions that they know. They caress beautiful haunting melodies, kick up the dust with stirring dance tunes, throw in some jazzy listening music and even have a touch of humour with their “stadium polska” (Friggin' Polska). (Who can forget their workshop at Cambridge the other year “Fingering fun with Frigg”?). The playing is stunning. Great tunes, great arrangements and boy do they swing! False legenyes must have some of the most startlingly tricky, rhythmical and unison fiddle playing I've ever heard – real “wow” factor.

There's not really a lot more to say about this one. One of my records of the year.
