MADS HANSENS KAPEL - Pa Den Forkerte Side |
||||
As the notes to this CD state, Mads Hansens Kapel delivers a playful interpretation of old Danish dance tunes. There are just five tunes on this CD - a delightful romp featuring a mazurka, a polka, a polska-schottisch, a vals and a hopsa. There seems to be a resurgence of interest in 19th century Danish folk music. This set is part of it, but it derives from the ballroom repertoire of composer D.T.S. Bjerregaard (1852-1916). MHK delivers the tunes with a wild passion, the sleeve notes are fun, the listening is fun, and the playing tight and magnificent. I guess you could party to this music. Better still, to learn the moves and steps but you’d have to be fit! For me, this would definitely be a good band to enjoy live at a gig. I can imagine that their act would make for a truly enjoyable evening, and funny at that! The line-up is clarinet, violin, guitar, bass and piano; the recorded sound is warm and lively. Give it a try. C.John Edwards
