FLEADH - The Peacock’s Feather

FLEADH - The Peacock’s Feather
Private Label LC13476

The line-up of Fleadh is Saoirse Mhór (vocals, guitar, songwriting), Tommy Gorny (guitar, bass, slide guitar), Marcus Eichenlaub (fiddle), Frank Dürschner (banjo, mandolin, harmonica) and Frank Weber (Uillean pipes, whistle, bodhrán) – quite a line-up with an excellent sound for their own brand of crossover folk teamed with songs from Saoirse. The CD is a lovely combination of traditional tunes and self-penned songs.

The songs include Kick Me, about why people bully others and kick them when they are down; You Don’t Have The Right, about domestic violence; Bridge Of Trouble, about making the world a beautiful place but how the powerful, with their pockets of gold, destroy it. The pleasure in life and love and building a home is covered in Salt Of The Earth and Tree Of Oak tells of how a tree can last a thousand years and stand the storms of time, yet human life is so fragile.

The traditional tunes include Laurel Tree, Peacock’s Feather, Monaghan Twig, Maid Of Ballingarry, Killarney Boys and Hunt The Squirrel. We loved the Taka Tuka Set, which includes We Won’t Go Home ‘Til Morning, Willie Hunter’s Polka and Destitution Reel.

This CD is a follow-up to the award winning (Best Album) Cleggan Bay Disaster. The band has also won Best World Music / Trad Album, Best Folk Album and Best Folk Song at the German Pop and Rock Awards. They have placed themselves among the best Irish folk bands and have gained recognition around Europe. This CD is even better than the previous and the band deserves the merit it receives.
