'Longer Listens' was one response from Living Tradition to the period of lock down which we experienced back in 2020.
Longer Listens
With our Longer Listens approach, we are again challenging conventional wisdom - which tells us that shorter is better. Over time, we will be digging into our archive of live concert and folk club recordings and encourage you to set time aside and sit back and re-enjoy whole performances, warts and all. Many of us will be listing with our memories as well as our ears. A further challenge will be to try to contextualise these recordings for those who weren’t there in person.
We have started by making a few items, a mix of audio and video, live for direct play from our website. We have a pipeline of material ready to go, so once we have tested the technology our plan is to schedule new features to add to the choice.
Feedback, especially hearing people’s own memories or providing additional information, would be great. We may allow comments on the posts, but we are aware that these are often abused by spammers, so we might have to restrict feedback through other avenues. Social Media, primarily Facebook, may be a better option to allow a broad range of people to contribute to a conversation.
At the moment, as we work towards an Index, our recordings are presented here under three menu tabs, Archive Audio, Videos and Insights. Audio recordings and Video recordings split the material we are presenting on the basic of the recording medium rather than subject matter - not necessarily the best display choice, so that might change. Insights was added for material that helps us to explore the archives - including interviews etc.
