Eddie Walker - Cruickshank Charity Concert, Edinburgh
This informal recording of Eddie Walker was part of an annual charity concert, organised by Maggie Cruickshank raising significants funds for cancer charities in memory of her sister Liz. It captures Eddie in sparkling form - although that is no surprise as Eddie never gave less than 100% whenever he played. Eddie travelled extensively with his music, but Scotland in general, and perhaps Edinburgh in particular, was familiar territory for him.
Eddie was a familiar face in folk clubs and festivals over many years, making many friends along the way. Musically, he stood out from the crowd, yet he fitted in seamlessly in all kinds of settings. Respected from all of the various parts of the folk music spectrum, Eddie was interested in other singers and performers, including traditional singers in Scotland. Eddie's support for this concert underlines those long-term connections, and friendships.
This recording demonstrates Eddie's easy rapport with an audience. Always the consummate professional, he could 'read the room' and deliver in spades. Enjoy!
Eddie is still alive and kicking although retired from performing - primarily caused by arthritis in his shoulder.
