Deanta @ Girvan Folk Festival

This concert captures Deanta, a group from County Antrim, Northern Ireland, in fine form. At one point in the recording, they mention that immediately after this concert, they will be off to Girvan Academy to play another set. This was 'peak Girvan', when the Saturday night concerts in the Theatre of Girvan Academy were full to capacity. Rather than seeking a larger venue, The Festival decided to introduce a parallel concert in the Kings Arms, with the main guests at the festival doing a less formal set there, before going up to the Academy Theatre. To facilitate this, the running order at either concert was roughly reversed.

Also mentioned, is the fact that two members of the normal line up of Deanta, were not present at the festival. Around the time of this recording, Deanta went on to release three albums on the prestigious Green Linnet label - so if you would like to hear their other line ups, seek out these recordings.

Déanta's line-up at this time included siblings Eoghan O'Brien (guitar, harp) and Kate O'Brien (fiddle), and Clodagh Warnock (bouzouki, fiddle), and Deirdre Havlin (flute, whistle) – and two members who were not able to make this Girvan appearance, Mary Dillon (vocals, keyboard, guitar, harp) and Rosie Mulholland (keyboard, fiddle).

This recording is part of The Living Tradition Archive and is presented here for your enjoyment and as part of the process of documenting and indexing this archive. Feedback is welcome.
